Why Choose a Binocular Telescope?
A Better View Awaits: Explore with Oberwerk Binocular Telescopes
If you have a million-dollar view—or love exploring the night sky—nothing compares to Oberwerk’s XL Series binocular telescopes. Unlike single-eye telescopes, our binocular design offers unmatched depth, clarity, and comfort. With both eyes open, you’ll experience celestial and long-range terrestrial views with greater detail and a more natural perspective.

The bottom line, then, is that the point of these binoculars isn’t to see the closest, most detailed view of a celestial object, but rather to see a unique view using both eyes at once. Which brings up an important fact: Using both eyes eliminates eye fatigue. I have spent many years looking through telescopes with apertures as large as 24 inches with only one eye. After a while spent staring at an object, my eye got tired; the more I looked, the less I saw. With both eyes, I can look as long as I want. And in this case, the more you look, the more you see.

What Sets us Apart?
Uncompromising Quality and Performance
Oberwerk binoculars have a rich history, beginning with the famous “Chinese Border Guard Binoculars” discovered by Oberwerk President, Kevin Busarow, in 1999. Since then, we’ve continuously improved the design, resulting in a more powerful, lighter, and sleeker binocular telescope that offers exceptional optical stability.
Each Oberwerk binocular is crafted with precision and undergoes rigorous collimation before delivery to ensure the highest performance. This guarantees that your binoculars will be perfectly aligned and ready for use as soon as you receive them.
Every Oberwerk Binocular Features:
No Oberwerk binocular leaves our facility in Dayton, Ohio, until it has passed a rigorous quality inspection and precise collimation—only then is it given a serial number to ensure it meets our high standards.

Objective size refers to the diameter of the front lenses on your binocular telescope. The larger the objective, the more light the telescope gathers, resulting in brighter, clearer images—especially in low-light conditions like stargazing or early-morning birdwatching.
Our XL Binocular Telescopes come with a range of objective sizes, from 70mm to 127mm, giving you the flexibility to choose the perfect size for your viewing needs. The larger the objective, the more detail you’ll be able to see, making it easier to observe distant celestial objects or distant landscapes with greater clarity.

The magnification of your binocular telescope is determined by the focal length of the eyepieces you use. The longer the focal length, the lower the magnification; the shorter the focal length, the higher the magnification. Our BT models come standard with 14mm eyepieces, but we also offer optional 7mm and 22mm eyepieces to adjust the magnification to suit your needs.
Oberwerk binocular telescopes are compatible with any standard-size 1.25″ telescope eyepiece, allowing for a wide range of magnification options based on the eyepiece focal length you select.
Focal length | 22mm | 14mm | 7mm |
BT-70XL | 18x | 28x | 56x |
BT-82XL | 20x | 32x | 64x |

When it comes to optics, the quality of the glass is crucial. Both ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and SD (Super-low Dispersion) glass are designed to reduce chromatic aberration, which is the color fringing that appears around bright objects viewed through optics.
What’s the difference?
ED Glass: This high-performance optical material significantly reduces chromatic aberration by slowing down different wavelengths of light as they pass through the objective lenses. The result? Sharper, more color-accurate images.
SD Glass: A more advanced and expensive type of glass that virtually eliminates chromatic aberration, delivering the sharpest, most true-to-life views possible within the binocular’s recommended magnification range. With SD glass, you get the ultimate in optical clarity—perfect for the discerning viewer who demands the highest image quality.
