The BT-82XL is the non-ED version of the BT-82XL-ED, making it the most affordable of the XL Series. It offers remarkably-good performance, with minimal chromatic aberration up to 64x magnification (7mm eyepieces), and is ideal for every type of usage. With 82mm objectives, 24mm of clear prism aperture, and a lightweight magnesium alloy body, this binocular telescope sets a new standard for image quality AND portability. A binocular of this quality deserves great eyepieces, so we include our finest 70° AFOV 14mm (32x) eyepieces, which normally sell for $250/pair. These eyepieces are not threaded for use with filters, but because of the industry-standard 1.25″ helical focusers, your favorite telescope eyepieces can be used as well. With the widest IPD range of any binocular on the market (50-80mm), even small children can view through both eyepieces.
Other features include a Picatinny rail handle (for mounting a wide variety of finders or laser pointers) and extendable glare shields. Not only are the XL Series the highest-quality binocular telescopes at anywhere near their relatively-low prices, they are also quite attractive! Available in your choice of a speckle-finish “Big Eyes” Gray or a lustrous “Luna Pearl” White, both featuring black-anodized trim. Our exclusive heavy-duty aluminum-frame case is included. Recommended mounts include the Oberwerk 5000 tripod/head, or the Oberwerk TR3 hardwood tripod with carbon-fiber elevator and Oberwerk 5000 head. Every Oberwerk binocular is tuned to perfection prior to shipping- so even at extreme magnifications, you’ll enjoy perfectly merged images.

Just a quick note to let you know how pleased I am with both the tripod and the BT-82XL’s I purchased. Cloudy nights lately, but last night cleared enough so that I could capture the full moon and Saturn in the same view…and with the standard eyepieces, there was a distinct separation between the rings and the body of the planet. Of course Jupiter and the moons presented a wonderful view as well.
I actually set it up next to a Pentax 65ED spotting scope with 20-60 zoom at a local gathering. People hardly used the Pentax, but were lined up to use the BT-82, the views are fantastic!

The image quality and construction of the BT-82XL is superb, at least as good as my Leicas. While bulkier than a spotting scope, they are much more comfortable for longer viewing sessions. I use them primarily for wildlife, but also enjoy using them for viewing the night sky. The ability to use standard 1.25″ eyepieces is also very nice, giving a wide range of magnification options, although you have to get used to focusing each eyepiece. Just make sure you have a very stable tripod, and a fluid head makes use easier as well. The folks at Oberwerk were extremely supportive in helping me choose the correct product, and obviously wanted me to be happy with my choice.
