Which Sport APO should I upgrade to?

The right choice depends less on which Sport ED you own and more on how you use your binocular.
If steadiness is your main concern: the 6.5×32 Sport APO
Binoculars magnify the movement of your hands along with everything else. A 10x binocular shows more detail, but it also makes every shake more visible. And many of us find, over time, that our hands aren’t quite as steady as they used to be.
If that’s a concern, the 6.5×32 is the easiest recommendation. Its lower magnification makes it exceptionally easy to hold steady, and its 10° field of view makes it much easier to locate and track subjects. For birding, hiking, travel, sporting events, or general daytime use, it may be the most relaxed Sport APO model of all.
If you want the best all-around upgrade: the 8×32 or 8.5×40 Sport APO
The 8×32 delivers a very wide 9.2° field in a compact, lightweight body — a great choice if you want something smaller and lighter than your Sport ED while gaining the Sport APO’s flatter, sharper image. The 8.5×40 is the better option if you want a little more light-gathering ability for dawn, dusk, or shaded environments. At 1.5 lbs, it’s still comfortable all day.
If you want more reach: the 10×32 or 10×40 Sport APO
If you can hold your current binocular steady and want more detail at distance, the 10x models are excellent choices. The 10×32 offers a remarkable 7.8° field of view, and the 10×40 gives you a generous 7.4° — meaning you gain magnification and a flatter image without giving up as much field width as you might expect. For hawk watching, shorebirds, distant wildlife, mountain views, or any situation where reach matters, the 10×40 is the strongest pick.
If arm fatigue is the issue: any 32mm Sport APO
The 6.5×32, 8×32, and 10×32 all weigh 1.35 lb and perform very close to the 40mm models in normal daylight. The main advantage of the 40mm shows up at lower light levels — dawn, dusk, deep shade, or casual astronomy. For long walks, travel, or all-day carrying comfort, the 32mm models are the easiest to live with.
Is the Sport APO worth the upgrade?
If you’re happy with your Sport ED, you don’t need to replace it. It remains an excellent binocular and one of the strongest values in its class.
But the Sport APO offers more of what experienced users notice most: true-to-life color, a wider field, sharper edges across the entire image, more comfortable extended use, and a diopter you can trust to stay where you set it.
The Sport ED is a great binocular. The Sport APO is for users who already know they love using one — and now want the view to feel wider, sharper, and more effortless.
