Oberwerk now offers a very affordable universal digiscoping adapter, which connects any smartphone to most Oberwerk binoculars and binocular telescopes, allowing you to capture photos or video through one side of a binocular. The adapter has a sturdy metal frame, and clamps to any binocular eyepiece from 25mm to 48mm (1.0″ to 1.9″) in diameter. The phone-holder handles any smartphone from 56mm to 100mm (2.2″ to 3.9″) in width. Most phones will fit even if they’re in a case.
NOTE: This smartphone adapter does not fit the following-
8×40 Mariner
25/40×100 Long-Range Observation binocular (40x yes, 25x no).
Oberwerk 22mm and 7mm eyepieces. It does fit the 14mm eyepiece.

I recently purchased a Google Pixel 4XL smartphone with an astrophotography capability, and I was looking for a smartphone adapter that could mount to a tripod head in addition to telescope eyepieces. I decided to purchase the Oberwerk model upon learning it has a 1/4”-20 mounting hole for that former purpose.
After receiving the item, a quick inspection showed that the adapter was light-in-weight yet constructed very well. All mechanisms for securing the smartphone into the adapter as well as attaching to a eyepiece were tight and rigid; there was no slop in their fit. Also, the rubberized points that touch my smartphone do a great job in not marring or damaging the finish.
Since my purchase, I’ve had the opportunity to use the adapter in both configurations. On the tripod, my smartphone is securely mounted, and I’m able take great wide-field astrophotography images over the course of a night. On the telescope, the phone/adapter setup firmly attaches to the eyepiece. The approach for aligning the camera’s aperture over the eyepiece pupil is simple and effective, yet it does requires some trial and error. However, once the sweet spot is found, the whole mechanical setup is nice and rigid. The positioning of the aperture to the eyepiece remains secure and unchanged as the telescope, eyepiece, and phone shift to different parts of the sky.
Overall, it is a great device for its stated purpose.

Great device, I am using it with Samsung S10, where camera lens is in center of phone (not offset to one side).

I am quite pleased with this digiscoping devise. I attached it to my Oberwerk 15×70 binoculars. Using an iPhone XR that has a thick cellhelmet case cover, it fits securely into the rubber grips. The previous reviews were very helpful along with viewing the photos that were available on your site in attaching the adapter made it easier to figure out . I managed to take a pic of a barred owl who landed in my yard the same day. Great product!

I purchased this in hopes of using it with two binoculars also bought from Oberwerk. Despite repeated attempts, we aren’t able to attach it to either pair. On the 10×50 binoculars, with a lot of effort it will almost fit around the eye piece, but even then the phone (iPhone 11 Pro with the case removed) will not focus on what is viewable. I have zoomed the camera in and that doesn’t make a difference. Just for fun, I tried using in on an inexpensive Bushnell and same results – the rig doesn’t perform as I’d hoped from seeing pictures and reading other reviews.

Simply put, I can’t get this product to work well with my iPhone 12. It could be operator error, and I will continue to try to work with it, but I’ve gotten much better results by simply holding the phone up to the eyepiece. If I can work out the bugs and get it hold snugly and stay in focus I will be happy to update this review.

I did not succeed with this adapter.
Here are the combinations that failed :
Oberwerk monocular – Iphone 13 mini
Leupold 8×30 Yosemite binoculars – LG phone
Pentax 8×42 monocular – LG phone
I suggest a person debug this on a cheap refurbished phone and cheap optics.
Trying this with expensive Iphone and grandpa’s Zeiss optics may not end well.
I am a first time buyer at Oberwerk and bought monoculars and this adapter in 1 order.
Oberwerk seems like a real class act, and the monocular seems impressive.
However, I suggest Oberwerk design or find an integrated unit that combines optics and camera since
I am unsure I would buy from Oberwerk again if I had only bought the adapter. :^(

Sorry the adapter didn’t work out for you. But it’s a very simple device that does just one thing- it clamps your smartphone camera lens over an eyepiece. Watch the video on the product page for more info. The purpose of the adapter is to use the high-quality optics that you already have and couple that with the excellent camera you already have in your smartphone. All binoculars that have a built-in camera are a combo of a poor-quality optic with a poor-quality camera.

I received my smart phone holder today and am very pleased with the images I was able to take during the day . The only thing I noticed was that it wouldn’t go over the 14 mm eyepiece . I removed 2 of the foam pads on the inside of frame that goes around the eyepiece and it fits perfectly now . Arrived quickly and as always a pleasure to do business with .
