The 15×70 Explore is where binocular viewing starts to feel truly immersive.
With 15x magnification and 70mm objective lenses, it gathers significantly more light than smaller binoculars, bringing out detail that simply isn’t visible at lower power. For astronomy, that means brighter star fields, better contrast, and the ability to pick out deep-sky objects with ease.
At the same time, it remains more manageable than larger models, making it an excellent balance between performance and practicality.
While especially well suited for stargazing, the 15×70 Explore is also effective for long-distance terrestrial viewing, including wildlife observation and scenic viewing where detail matters.
For best results, tripod mounting is recommended, especially for extended sessions.
The Oberwerk 3000 Series Tripod is an excellent, affordable option that provides a stable platform. For users 6′ and taller, we recommend the Oberwerk 5000 Series Tripod for more comfortable viewing, especially when observing the night sky.
Like the rest of the Explore Series, the 15×70 is built with the same core features found across the Oberwerk line:
With 18mm of eye relief and twist-up eyecups, eyeglass wearers can comfortably see the full 4.3° field of view.
Lightweight hard case, neck strap, ocular cover, captive objective covers, and the Oberwerk Heavy-Duty L Adapter for tripod mounting.
The 15×70 Explore delivers a noticeable jump in performance over smaller binoculars, offering brighter images, greater reach, and a more engaging viewing experience, while remaining accessible and easy to use.

All I can say is that I am impressed! This is my first binocular larger than 50mm and it’s amazing how much more I can see than with my Nikon 12×50. I had originally planned to use this for a while and then upgrade to the 15x70EDU, but after a couple of nights out with these I’m not in any hurry. FWIW I use them on the 2000 monopod and it’s a great match.

Just got my 15×70 Explore’s and 2000 monopod tonight. Took them out for the Mars / Moon occultation. All I can say is WOW. These binos are the perfect step up from my 10×50’s and the monopod was so much more enjoyable than my tripod. I also had my 6” Newtonian out for the occultation but ended up enjoying the view more through the binos. High recommend for both products.

Greetings from Bulgaria! If you don’t know where it is… too bad for you 🙂
I received my Oberwerk 15×70 Explore from Oberwerk .eu. I used it both with my hands and with the Monfrotto tripod I have.
I am pleasantly surprised!
Field of view: The contrast is perfect, the edge is clear, I did not notice any chromatic aberrations. Distorted, trailing stars like comets in the last 10% this is normal OK. The focuser is a little hard or does not grip well with my fingers, but this is subjective.
I definitely do not regret making this choice and upgrading from Nikon 10×50.
I recommend it with both hands 🙂
Linda – thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me with the order.
Cloudless evenings to everyone!
