The Oberwerk 70XL-SD is the most compact member of the XL Series, bringing true apochromatic performance to a remarkably portable binocular telescope. Featuring 70mm FCD100 super-low dispersion (SD) apochromatic objectives, 24mm clear-aperture prisms, and a lightweight magnesium-alloy body that’s both waterproof and nitrogen-filled, the 70XL-SD delivers bright, sharp, and color-accurate images far beyond what’s typical for its size. Despite its compact design, it’s capable of 56× magnification with outstanding clarity and virtually zero chromatic aberration.
The magnesium-alloy chassis keeps total weight low without sacrificing strength or precision. Extendable glare shields protect the objectives and enhance contrast, while the Picatinny rail handle allows direct mounting of red-dot finders, laser pointers, or other accessories for easy targeting. The ultra-wide 50–80mm IPD range ensures that observers of all ages — even small children — can enjoy a perfectly aligned, comfortable two-eyed view.
Finished in Luna Pearl White with red-anodized trim, the 70XL-SD is as stylish as it is capable — a perfect blend of performance and portability.
Each binocular telescope includes premium 8-element, 14mm (28×) 70° AFOV eyepieces, providing immersive, wide-field views with exceptional edge sharpness. Optional 22mm (18×) and 7mm (56×) eyepiece pairs extend the magnification range for both expansive deep-sky vistas and high-power lunar or planetary observing. An exclusive heavy-duty aluminum-frame case is included for safe transport and storage.
Every 70XL-SD is individually collimated, tested, and tuned by hand, with alignment certified to 98× (step <12 arcseconds). Backed by a 5-year Limited Warranty, it delivers Oberwerk’s hallmark combination of precision optics, robust engineering, and lasting quality.

Michael Franzyshen (verified owner) –
What a treat! I’ve owned a pair Fujinon FMT-16x70s for about 20+ years. These 70XL-SD binos are a huge improvement in both optical performance and features; i.e., removable eyepieces, extendable dew shields, mounting options, etc. These binos will satisfy the most discriminating observers – I’m picky about my optics! The SD glass makes a discernible difference over the ED version, especially on the moon and brighter planets. Also, at 8.5 pounds, you’re not dreading taking these out to observe.
Under the light-polluted skies of New Jersey with the stock 14mm eyepieces, I was able to pick out M11, M13, M92, M27, M31, M71, M56, M57, the Double Cluster (WOW), Alberio, and a host of other objects.
If you’ve been considering these binos, don’t hesitate, you will not be disappointed!
